Spring Cleaning Your Blinds

As the days get longer and the sun starts streaming through the windows, it’s the perfect time to give your home a refresh – and that includes your blinds. At Cambridge Interiors, we know how much of a difference clean, well-maintained blinds can make to the look and feel of a room.

Here’s your go-to guide for giving your blinds a simple but satisfying spring clean.

  • Start with a Dust-Down

No matter what type of blinds you have – venetian, vertical, roller, or Roman – a light dusting is the best place to start. Use a microfiber cloth, feather duster, or the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to gently lift away surface dust.

Tip: For slatted blinds, tilt the slats closed one way, dust, then tilt them the other way to catch anything missed.

  • Spot-Clean Where Needed

Look out for any smudges or stains—these often build up near windows, in kitchens, or on blinds touched often. Use a clean, damp cloth and mild soap to dab the area gently. Always test on a small area first, especially for fabric blinds, and avoid oversaturating wooden ones.

  • Don’t Forget the Fixtures

As part of your spring clean, take a few minutes to wipe down the headrail, cords, and control chains. These areas are often overlooked but can collect just as much dust and grime. A quick clean here helps everything look and function better.

  • Fresh Air for Fabric Blinds

If you’ve got Roman or roller blinds, spring is a great time to air them out. Gently lower them and let them hang for a few hours to shake off creases and bring in a bit of that spring freshness. If they’re safe to do so, you can also unclip some fabric blinds and let them breathe outside for a bit (just make sure it’s a dry day!).

Give Your Windows the Finishing Touch

Clean blinds make a surprising difference—they brighten your room, let in more light, and add to that fresh-start feeling we all crave in spring. At Cambridge Interiors, we believe beautiful homes are built on the little details.
